Skin Tag

Skin Tag

Skin tags are a common, harmless soft skin lesion that appears to hang off the surface of the skin.

Skin tags can develop in both women and men as they get older and can run in families. They are skin-colored or slightly darker. Also, they can look like warts or raised lumps. They vary in size from 1mm to 5cm. They are more common around the neck and skin folds such as the armpits, groin, and under breasts in women.

They are harmless, and usually do not need treatment. However, they can affect confidence or cause inconvenience if they catch on clothing, jewelry, or razors while shaving.

Management Plan

  1. Confirmation of the diagnoses by a healthcare professional
  2. You may leave without treatment, as it is harmless. Though we may recommend that you take photos regularly, and seek medical advice if there are any changes or symptoms.
  3. Freezing with liquid nitrogen (cryosurgery) as an alternative to surgery. We recommend this as the first line of treatment.

We offer skin tag removal with liquid nitrogen, a popular and evidence-based treatment for skin tags. Part of the reason it is so popular is that it required no surgery and no injections!

In fact, for most people, it is completely pain-free.

It is also called “freezing therapy” because all it involves is spraying a cold liquid onto the base of the skin tag. Usually, the only discomfort is a cold sensation on the area, which is expected (the spray is -200°C, after all!).

  1. Surgical excision
  2. Electrosurgery (diathermy)
  3. Tying a suture around the neck of the skin tag.
  4. Prevention. This is not guaranteed to work. However, we can give advice that may help reduce the number of skin tags in the future.

We mainly recommend freezing with liquid nitrogen as the first line of treatment and an alternative to surgery.

When ready, please call Alternatives Clinic on 01908 526524 and book your appointment.

Practitioners you can trust

All of our staff are fully qualified and insured professionals. Our nurse treatments are carried out by Diane Mason, who has spent 15 years as a dermatology nurse and performed countless liquid nitrogen treatments at that time.

If, on the other hand, you choose to see a dermatologist, Dr. Bassam will treat you personally. He is the owner and medical director at Alternatives Clinic. We believe that quality healthcare should be affordable for everyone, so even treatments with Dr. Zeina are competitively priced compared to nurse treatments elsewhere.
